Virgin Islands Public Ferry Schedule

Advance ferry reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets can be purchased on arrival, but there is a risk of no availability of seats.

Most ferries depart from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (10 minute taxi ride from airport) for Road Town, Tortola. On certain days, there is also a ferry from Red Hook, St. Thomas (35-40 minute taxi ride from airport) to West End, Tortola.

Ferry cost is approximately $60/person each way, plus luggage fees (approx. $10/each), BVI Environmental Levi $10/person (paid on arrival to BVI) and BVI departure fee $20/person (paid at departure from BVI).

How to Find The Ferry Schedules For Your Dates:

1. The 4 ferry companies (Road Town Fast Ferry, Smith’s Ferry, Native Son Ferry, and Aquatic Rentals) rotate schedules and they are not the same every week. Therefore, it’s best practice to check the website for each of the 4 ferry companies before purchasing your tickets.

2. On each website you can input your travel dates to find the time(s) that ferry company is operating on that date. You may find that a company is not running at all on certain dates.

3. Once you choose the ferry that works best for your schedule, make your reservation directly on the ferry company’s website:

FAQ: What happens if you purchase your ticket and your flight is delayed causing you to miss the ferry? In this situation it is very important to call the ferry company as soon as possible. They will work with you to take their next ferry. If they do not have a later ferry running the same day, but another ferry company does have a later ferry running with available seats, then they will work together to transfer your ticket to the other ferry company with a $20/ticket transfer fee.

Private Water Taxis

Private water taxis are an alternative to the public ferry. A private water taxi offers customized schedules and personalized service with an expedited customs clearing process and drop off at the charter marina instead of the ferry dock. The cost of a private water taxi depends on the group size, but roughly costs 2-3 times more than the public water taxi.
