Please answer the following questions pertaining to the charter company and the yacht you chartered.
Rating of Charter Company & Yacht: 5
Upon arrival and during your charter, were the staff of the charter company friendly and accommodating?
Yes. Everything was orderly and organized.
Did the staff do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?
Yes. However, the boat manual had a couple small errors in it. I think they used pages from a different boat.
Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?
      Very clean. She sailed well.
Was the yacht’s cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?
Yes. However, some of the crew wished there had a blender on board. Not a big deal though. The pots and pans are newer and the knives were still pretty sharp.
      Was the yacht well ventilated?
The bow cabin was well ventilated with the help of a wind scoop. it also helped ventilate the rest of the boat.
Additional comments about the charter company and yacht you chartered?
I’ve chartered with Horizon Yacht Charters twice now. I will continue to do so. The staff is laid back but very professional. They’re processes are well honed. Check out and Check in work like clockwork.
      Cruising Area

Did you like the area you chartered in?
The BVI are great. Especially for crew that are new to cruising. I prefer to go in low and shoulder seasons. This year, we missed a mooring at Cooper Island because the Boatyball moorings were all reserved and we got there too late to pick up a first-come-first-serve ball. I understand it can be difficult to pick up a ball in high due to the high number of boats.
Would you like to share your itinerary or a vacation highlight with us?
We were out of the Nanny Cay harbor by 2:00. Spent the first night in the Bight on Norman island and hung out at the Willy T’s. The next day, we snorkeled and explored the Caves in the morning and Pelican island in the afternoon. Spent the night at Peter island and had dinner at Oceans 7 Yacht Club. We made reservations for 5 people but they weren’t necessary. The next day, we spent most of our time hanging out at Salt island and snorkeling the RMS Rhone. This is a favorite of mine. We spent the night in Great Harbor again and had dinner on the boat. The next day, we sailed early and and reserved a ball at Cooper Island. We snorkeled Cistern Point and all along the harbor. Had dinner at the Cooper Island Beach Club. But before dinner the crew had a Rum Punch powered Euchre tournament during happy hour at the bar. We sailed to Virgin Gorda the next day. Played around the Baths and had a cheeseburger. We spent the night at Marina Cay. But first made a pitstop at Trellis Bay for some groceries, more happy hour, and a shower. We had dinner at the restaurant in Marina Cay and it was fantastic. I had the ribs which were better than expected. The crew raved about the Mac and Cheese! We then sailed to Jost Van Dyke. Snorkeled White Bay, had Painkillers at Soggy Dollar bar, and hung out at Foxy’s in Great Harbor. The next day, we had a wonderful day of sailing and tacking back to Norman Island. I wanted to be close for our return to Horizon the next day. We closed out our trip with a fast and fun beat back to Nanny Cay.

Please answer the following questions pertaining to the charter company and the yacht you chartered.
Rating of Charter Company & Yacht: 5
Upon arrival and during your charter, were the staff of the charter company friendly and accommodating?
Yes they were. Stored our luggage and then let us check in for sleep aboard early 🙂
Did the staff do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?
Yes although the operating manuals contained some errors which they noted when we brought them to their attention. They had taken a template from another boat and did not catch all the subtle differences.
Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?
Yes. It was a new 2023/24 boat. We did discuss with them how surprised we were that there was already so much wear and tear for a brand new boat!
Was the yacht’s cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?
      Yes. Everything we needed.
      Was the yacht well ventilated?
Could have been better but that is a boat design issue in terms of where opening ports are located. Breeze catchers were provided and fans were included which helps but fans used sparingly as we weren’t sure about impact on the battery. No generator so no A/C which is not really desired in any event.
Additional comments about the charter company and yacht you chartered?
We will charter with Horizon again as they are very professional and accommodating. They provide us additional perks (e.g. larger discount or free water toys) given we are repeat customers (4 x)
      Cruising Area

Did you like the area you chartered in?
Most definitely. This was our 5th charter in the BVIs. We considered going elsewhere but increasing familiarity and ease of navigation make for a more relaxing holiday for us, Line of sign navigation and ability to reserve moorings in advance make for stress free travelling.
Would you like to share your itinerary or a vacation highlight with us?
Our stops included: Norman Island, Marina Cay, Bitter End Yacht Club, Guana Island (inc;. snorkelling at Monkey Point), Jost Van Dyke – Great Harbour (2 nights) and back to Norman Island before returning to Nanny Cay. We skipped the Baths this year (too busy and more challenging as you get older :)) Windy weather and rocky seas had us skip snorkelling at the Indians this time as well. We did scope out Diamond Reef and Great Dog for snorkelling but again, seas were not conducive to a pleasant snorkel experience. White beach on JVD is always a fav.
The highlight: seeing a pair of playful dolphins at Guana Island!
