Please answer the following questions pertaining to the charter company and the yacht you chartered.
Rating of Charter Company & Yacht: 4
Upon arrival and during your charter, were the staff of the charter company friendly and accommodating?
Yes. Theresa (customer service desk) in particular was very helpful.
Did the staff do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?
Yes. Destiny did our boat briefing and was very knowledgeable about the yacht. One minor issue on water maker operation but that was not a problem.
Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?
Clean yes. Working condition was acceptable. It was a 2024 but had more wear than we expected for a 2-year old yacht. Some peeling finish near portholes, upholstery frayed, etc. All cosmetic and not an issue as far as we were concerned.

Mechanically, we had a few issues. First let me say that I have NEVER chartered a boat that was perfect. It’s a boat and it will break. I accept that as part of the experience. With that said: 1) Generator died on 5th night. Could not diagnose the issue and since we were returning to base the next day, we did not ask for an in-person service visit. The lack of generator affected not only the AC, but the water maker and icemaker. We were forced to top off water at a marina. 2) sail batten came loose and almost fell out. No way to keep it in, so we removed it from the sail and stored it on deck. No impact to sailing. 3) the port side blackwater system had issues – a smell and a malfunctioning gauge or sensor. Required constant dumping. Offensive to noses but did not affect the trip. 4) Electric traveler malfunctioned and a repair was attempted by Navigare before we sailed. It was ineffective. Able to sail without it and/or adjust it manually if on the right point of sail. Did not materially affect ability to sail. 5) Windless panel at helm inoperative. Had to estimate chain length. Not a major issue. All squawks reported and emailed to Navigare.
Was the yacht’s cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?
Other than missing can opener, the yacht was well equipped. All appliances worked well.
    Was the yacht well ventilated?
Yes. And we tested that. We had one night with no generator when the breeze was 15+ kts the yacht was comfortable. We had a second night in the lee of Jost where wind was light and variable. Yacht was quite warm.
Additional comments about the charter company and yacht you chartered?
Overall happy with Navigare. They were responsive and attentive. PROACTIVELY assisted us with taxis, provisions, scuba rentals and other items. What’sApp was usually the best way to contact them.

Happy with the yacht. Minor issues that only impacted us 1 – 2 nights or so. My third time with a Lagoon44/45/46 and really like the yacht for sailing.

There was an odd characteristic on this Lagoon 46…it has very limited storage in the forward cabins. No wardrobe and only a few drawers or shelves and many of the shelves contained safety equipment. The crew forward really had to be creative with storing their gear. The 44 and 45 did not have this issue.
    Cruising Area

Did you like the area you chartered in?
First time using both Navigare and Nanny Cay as base and loved it. Good hotel, marina, shops, restaurants and bars. The Riteway being there really helped with provisioning. Stayed at the Nanny Cay Marina Hotel one night and really liked it.

Chartering in BVI is the best. Love other locations too, but this was my 9th trip to BVI and I will continue to return. One of our crew declared it the best vacation they had ever taken!
Would you like to share your itinerary or a vacation highlight with us?
Usual counterclockwise loop around Tortola hitting the usual spots. 120 nm total. Tried to scuba but a bit too rough for the Rhone…OK at Indians and George Dog. Did not do Anegada.

Two new experiences. 1) did the Baths and all of Virgin Gorda by rental van. Fantastic experience using Speedy’s as rental agency. Delivered and returned the van at Leverick Bay. Saw all of the island, spent most of the day at Baths, did not worry about time on the Ball and then 2) Hog Heaven for dinner. What an amazing view!!

Upon arrival and during your charter, were the staff of the charter company friendly and accommodating?
    Yes.
Did the staff do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?
    Yes.
Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?
Mostly. There were issues with the holding tank gauges, the water tank gauges, and the cooling system for the generator. Didn’t seem like the boat had been thoroughly checked out before we left. They had a really big group return the day before our charter started.

Boat was very nice and clean. Like new. Other than a bunch of gauges all the systems worked.

Oh, except the anchor chain counter. Which didn’t work, and wouldn’t have been an issue… but the anchor chain was not marked for length, so it made it really hard to figure out how much chain we had out.
Was the yacht’s cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?
    Very much so.
    Was the yacht well ventilated?
Like to shut down gen and open hatches before bed. Forward cabins could have been better designed to maximize airflow.
Additional comments about the charter company and yacht you chartered?
Seems like a lot of sail controls have been simplified to the point that they’re less fun. I like having a Genoa over a self tacking jib. And running all lines to one point made kind of a mess.

On the flip side a lot of the boat systems were overly complicated. I prefer simple gravity controls to pump out waste tanks vs. pump systems. Plus a lot of the hi tech water, waste and other gauges had really fancy displays… but they didn’t work.
    Cruising Area

Did you like the area you chartered in?
Yes, very much. Although it’s gotten really crowded over the years.
Would you like to share your itinerary or a vacation highlight with us?
Great day at Anegada hanging out at Cow Wreck and Tipsy.
