The annual Christmas in July is a must-attend event in the British Virgin Islands, where boaters from Puerto Rico and nearby areas come together for a week of festivities. This tradition, which started in 2007, has grown exponentially over the years, attracting thousands of visitors. And guess what? Everyone is welcome!

Up to 2,000 people and 500 boats gather in Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda for a day of heart-pumping, hip-shaking, rum-swilling fun. The Christmas in July event gives you the chance to enjoy great music, indulge in delicious food, and of course, celebrate the strong relationship between Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.

This event is not just about partying; it’s also about the deep connection between the two communities. Puerto Ricans have a genuine love and affinity for the BVI, which they’ve shown time and time again, especially during difficult times.

After Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on the BVI, the people of Puerto Rico stepped up to help. They brought supplies, evacuated friends and family members, and treated everyone from the BVI with incredible kindness and respect.

As a gesture of gratitude, the people of the BVI now celebrate the “Puerto Rican Navy” every July during the Christmas in July event. It’s quite a sight to see!

To make this event even more remarkable, Christmas in July now has sponsors, including banks and beer and rum companies from Puerto Rico. Although the main event takes place on July 25, the actual day of Christmas in July, there’s plenty to enjoy throughout the whole week. The celebration caters to all ages and brings together the best of music, dancing, and mouthwatering food.

Captain Kieran and 1st Mate Michelle

You may not know this, but Captain Kieran and 1st Mate Michelle have quite the story. They first crossed paths in 2012 while working as instructors and photographers in the dive industry in Mexico. With their shared passion for scuba diving and adventure, it was only natural that their paths would converge.

Since then, they have embarked on an incredible journey that has taken them across the Caribbean, Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Kieran is not only an accomplished diver, but also a skilled captain who enjoys all kinds of water sports. His interest in marine life is infectious and he loves sharing his knowledge with others.

For the past 8 years, Kieran and Michelle have found their home in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. The country is steeped in history and secrets waiting to be discovered, and they have been fortunate enough to uncover many of them during their time there. Running sailing yachts in the Caribbean was a natural progression for them, as being on boats has always been a part of their lives.

Michelle, in particular, is a seasoned sailor with her RYA Day Skipper certification. She is also a PADI Dive Instructor and a skilled watersport instructor. Whether you’re into surfing, foiling wakeboarding, or free diving, Michelle has got you covered.

Stewardess Anais

Originally from Belgium, Anais spent her formative years on the ocean-loving island of Tahiti in the South Pacific. After earning her Masters’s degree in Economics and Business, she managed several businesses while pursuing her passions for kitesurfing and scuba diving. A year spent cruising French Polynesia on a private sailboat with her partner changed her life, and she made the decision to join the professional yachting industry.

With her attentive and easy-going nature, Anais is the perfect stewardess for Twin Flame 77. Her experience in hospitality and retail has equipped her with excellent customer service skills, ensuring a first-class experience for all guests. She is thrilled to explore the Caribbean and provide a relaxing and enjoyable environment for everyone on board.

Chef Renata

Renata, originally from coastal northern New Zealand, has always had a deep connection to nature and the water. Growing up, she witnessed her mother’s passion for food and the joy that came from preparing a delicious family meal.

In her mid-twenties, Renata moved to Europe, where she had the opportunity to travel, taste, and cook during her holidays from her corporate job. It was during this time that she fell in love with sailing and decided to combine her two passions. After obtaining her Day Skipper certification, she began hosting charters in Croatia and Greece. She even fulfilled her dream of crossing the Atlantic Ocean by sail, managing the provisioning and cooking for the entire crew.

Renata’s culinary style is a fusion of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Asian flavors, influenced by the classic New Zealand cuisine she grew up with. She is always excited to discover new ingredients, spices, and cooking styles, and loves exploring local food markets. In the Virgin Islands, she can’t wait to share her culinary discoveries with you.

Anegada Lobster Festival

Get ready for an incredible weekend at the Anegada Lobster Festival in the British Virgin Islands from November 24th to 26th! This year’s festival is going to be bigger and better than ever, and you won’t want to miss it.

There’s a new addition to the festival this year… the Family Fun Day at the Anegada Recreation Grounds, presented by the VI Recreation Trust. It’s going to be a blast, with waterslides, pools, bouncy houses, and concession machines. The Family Fun Day is happening on November 25th and 26th, and it’s not only for children visiting the festival, but also for the kids of Anegada to enjoy a fun weekend.

Live music will be by the amazing local band Too Smooth. They’ll be greeting all visitors at the ferry dock, so get ready to dance and have a great time. And don’t forget about the Party Cycle and the Party Bus, providing shuttle service and excursions for everyone.

The festival will kick off on Friday, November 24th, right after the US Thanksgiving Day holiday. You can enjoy delicious food and entertainment at select restaurants around the island.

This year, a record twelve restaurants on Anegada are ready to welcome festival goers. Each restaurant will feature a lobster sampler for just $10, in addition to their regular menus. You can try out the crispy fried lobster with mango dip or the mouthwatering lobster pizza, along with all the classic favorites like lobster rolls and lobster patties.

While you’re enjoying the festival, there will be live music and a carnival-like atmosphere among the participating restaurants. And if you’re staying overnight, there will be evening entertainment to keep the party going.

Yachting Cocktail Recipe Of The Month

~ AMARETTO SOUR ~

Meet the Amaretto Sour… a classic cocktail that perfectly balances the sweet, almond-flavored Amaretto with zesty lemon juice.

It’s a timeless and versatile drink, much like your sailing journey, where simplicity and elegance meet. With each sip, you’ll experience the harmonious blend of flavors that mirrors the beauty around you.

So, raise your glass to the Amaretto Sour, a toast to tradition and allure, and let it enhance your unforgettable moments at sea.

Ingredients:

~ 2 ounces Amaretto liqueur
~ 3/4 ounces fresh lemon juice
~ 1/2 ounce simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
~ Ice
~ Lemon wheel or maraschino cherry, for garnish (optional)

Now that you have all your ingredients ready let’s get started!

Instructions:

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
