Did you like the area you chartered in?
Yes.
Several of us have sailed in the BVI since 2000.
Three of us have sailed in the BVI, Croatia, St Barts/Anguilla/Martin together as well as Antigua twice.
We chose the BVI for simplicity and you are never more than 2 hours from a good restaurant and harbor.
Would you like to share your itinerary or a vacation highlight with us?
Itinerary.
First day, Cooper Island with dinner reservation but no Boaty Ball res. But we were lucky and someone left.
Day 2 Leverick Bay with a Boaty Ball Resv. We saw another boat recover a Boaty Ball with a broken chain after they had tied to hit. Disconcerting.
Day 3 Jost Little Harbor and enjoyed Cinthia Harris for dinner.
Day 4 Jost, Great Harbor. White Beach of course, dinner at Tipsy Shark which was good. Foxy's is not busy.
We also did a night at Norman Island Bight and dinner at Pirates Bight.
Went back to Cooper with a Boaty Ball Resv after Norman.
Did a night in Trellis Bay because we had to drop a crew member at the airport.
At at the NEW Mongoose. Nice food. Not sure who paid to build such a huge place as we were lonely there. Prior trip ate at the Grocery Store restaurant which should be skipped for dinner but ok for provisions.

Please answer the following questions pertaining to the charter company and the yacht you chartered.
Rating of Charter Company & Yacht: 4
Upon arrival and during your charter, were the staff of the charter company friendly and accommodating?
Very much so. Excellent. Smart team of concerned people.
Large staff for so few boats compared to the big guys.
They always had time for us and were knowledgeable and helpful.
Did the staff do a good job familiarizing you with the yacht and its equipment?
YES.
Sam of Conch did a super fine job explaining and demonstrating features of this old Beneteau 50. We have chartered many Beneteau 50s, and 48 new once and old 47s. We look for the differences and details.
Was the yacht clean and in good working condition?
The old yacht was clean.
As for Good Working order, generally yes.
The old boat had its quirks but we agreed to an old boat for a smaller cost.
We are sailors and can deal with most things.
The Diesel had an Oil Alarm panic on last day so we stopped the Diesel, contacted the Conch base discussed and altered our sailing plan to not need the Diesel.
We eventually sailed into Road Town Bay as instructed and they met us with a team of mechanics who diagnosed what parts had failed and could not be instantly replaced and they pushed the barge into the slip. A fine job.
Old boats have old boat failures. We accepted that.
They could properly lube the sail track so the main sail falls down into the stack pack. It does NOT fall down. In fact it wants to leave 15 to 20 feet up.
I usually pulled it down but the whimpy boat hook which was too short to reach the water also was too short to reach the sail unless I climbed the mast steps.
Don't ask 70+ year old sailors to do that or lay on their bellies to reach a mooring pendant. I demonstrated this to Hannah our Excellent check back in person. Excellent. But will she and Jeremy immediately replace that short stick. I asked them to. I have better a longer boat hooks on my 22.5ft Ensign.
The sails were old but worked fine. We could reef as we did, we could bury the rail we could do controlled jibes. All that gear worked. The single line reefing as in all salt water boats needs some work cleaning and lubing the mechanisms in the boom. Personally prefer 2 line reefing to avoid this lack of maintenance on the more complex single reefing line hardware.
The radio, boat phone, lights, sound system and excellent big Raymarine Axiom Plus Chart plotter were good.
BUT the Raymarine Wind Machine was NOT communicating with the MFD or any of the single purpose instruments. So we had no wind speed or direction.
We knew the speed for our iPhone weather forecasts and we tied wool and audio tape on the shrouds which we do anyway. Seeing the Windex at the mast head is hard through the Bimini. It did not affect our fun and sailing. But NO one checked that gear. While they told us the water tanks were full their forms instruct US to top them up ourselves and we did. Of three tanks, one was full and two needed serious filling so someone on staff skipped a task.
Was the yacht's cooking and cleaning equipment sufficient?
YES.
We ate all dinners out.
We made cold breakfasts and lunch.
We used the generator to make electricity for the elec coffee maker.
We used the propane stove to make tea.
All worked fine.
The frog and freezer stayed cold very well.
Was the yacht well ventilated?
Yes. We did NOT run the AC on the Generator.
Additional comments about the charter company and yacht you chartered?
The Lady Aubrey is properly priced compared to shiny newer similar yachts at the Moorings. The Conch people are excellent. Excellent and excellent handling our situation last day when Diesel alarm went off. Just Excellent.
We once chartered from a charter firm in Red Hook, St. Thomas and they did not return or call for help until dinner time. We stopped using them and don't speak well of them.
Much nicer and useful and friendlier than our recent Moorings experiences.
I recently did a Horizon charter in Feb. on an almost new 2024 Jeanneau 349 or something. New and shiny is nice but we like older, bigger, heavier more roomy boats.
